As WorldNetDaily reported, the rallies, coordinated by the Free Republic Network and Young Americans for Freedom, are meant to give those who are in favor of taking military action to disarm Iraq a way to demonstrate their support for President Bush and U.S. troops. "We want to show our fellow citizens, our soldiers, our nation and the world that most Americans support our troops, and support the president's plan to end Saddam Hussein's terrorist regime and free the Iraqi people," said Bob Johnson, national director for the Free Republic Network. According to a statement from the organization, "Rally for America" organizers have planned more than 65 individual events between March 15 and March 29, with the bulk of them occurring this weekend. With more rallies being planned each day, says Johnson, "there is no doubt that there will be rallies in well over 100 cities." The Free Republic Network website has posted information about the rallies, including a U.S. map where visitors can click on a location to find the rally nearest them. saturn.he.net There also is a page for those who want to organize a rally and have it posted on the site. A large rally is being planned for Times Square in New York City for Sunday. "Join us, and help make this weekend a great success in our stand against worldwide terrorism!" Johnson said in the statement. In promoting the rallies, Scott Swett, chairman of the Free Republic Network, rhetorically asked: "After all, why should the leftists have the streets all to themselves?" worldnetdaily.com
