I don't agree. I remember well when the anti-Americanism took hold. In my mind, it was during the Iranian hostage crisis. When we showed our weakness during this period, it was just as though we had made a public statement -- "we're weak; come and get us". Over the 20+ ensuing years anti-Americanism has grown.

Even when we won the Gulf War in '91, Saddam was able to claim victory, because he was still in office. With the removal of Saddam, this all changes.

This war (if they don't all surrender before it starts) will be a crystalizing event in the Mideast for the next 20 or more years. Arab states are going to quit focusing on America as the target of their hatred, and begin squabbling internally over water rights. I'd much prefer to have them fighting each other than coming after us.

My opinion, at least.
