You are absolutely correct about that Marcos. My knowledge now of English and vocabulary is extensive, perhaps age and experience is part of it, because as a 15 year old I failed my English 'O' level exams 3 times but passed French and German at the first try. Since then I have discovered cryptic crosswords, public speaking and travel.

The point I was trying to make was the FORCED versus voluntary learning of a second language. There is nothing wrong with having a second language, but it seems that another language that would be of concrete benefit should be the prime consideration. Others here mentioned the proliferation of Asian languages....when time permits, I intend to learn more Spanish. Again, my point was this: offer the choice of several "useful" languages to kids in the schools when they are old enough to decide whether or not to do drugs, use condoms, or buy rap crap. Do NOT force french alone on them the minute they are able to walk. Sensationalism and social structuring aside, we still need a large enough percentage of the population able to work and pay taxes (in many languages) in order to supplement the dreamers in the lifestyle they've become accustomed to.
