Iraq War Protester Dies in Golden Gate Bridge Fall

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A man protesting the looming U.S. war on Iraq fell to his death from San Francisco's famed Golden Gate Bridge on Wednesday as he was hanging a banner, officials said.

"He appears to have been hanging a banner of some kind," said California Highway Patrol officer Timothy Willock. "We're not sure if he decided to jump or slipped while he was, you know, hanging the banner. That's unclear right now."

Anti-war sentiment is strong in the San Francisco Bay Area but the death of the man in his 30s was the first related to the latest protests over the U.S.-led war against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

re:According to the Right, there are tons and tons.........the next few weeks will prove interesting.

Wasn't 1441 passed by everyone?

Your disingenuous rhetoric is really exasperatingly stupid when the war is about to start.

Excuse me but what does Res. 1441 have to do with my statement? For weeks, the right from Bush on down has insisted that Saddam has tons of WMD; that the weapon inspectators are idiots and will never find them; that France is Saddam's fall guy. Over and over, when people have protested the war, the right repeatedly have said that Saddam threatens us with his WMD and he must be deposed. Now, on the eve of war, discussion about WMD is suddenly "disingenious and exasperatingly stupid".

Are you saying that these claims of stockpiled WMD were subterfuge in order to get is into the war and *wink* *wink*, lets fogeddabotit now? Because strangely enough on this eve of war, many of those who were beating the WMD drum suddenly are backing off from that allegation; saying "don't expect to find them right away", or "they're probably very well hidden and hard to find".

Didn't that "right winger" Hans Blix say a lot of things are unaccounted for.

Doesn't matter what Mr. Blix thinks.......according to the right, he's an idiot.

I can't imagine Saddam was hiding nothing and wants to fight a war over things he "really" doesn't have - do you?

Well, there could be an issue of Iraq's sovereignty, you remember sovereignty......that's the thing the Right complains we're losing everytime we go to the UN. Maybe Saddam thinks Iraq will lose its sovereignty if he caves to the US. Better yet, he may be worried about losing job security. <g>

However, it will be enlightening for the entire world if even a single SCUD is fired anywhere.

I'm planning on him having more than one.
