How could we? Well we've known Saddam has been sitting on those huge oil reserves for decades. Yet, he was our friend and buddy during the 1980s. We had no problem doing business with him, even as he gassed the Kurds. If we were so concerned about Saddam sitting on our oil supplies, perhaps we should have embarked on an energy efficiency campaign after the 1st Gulf War and started a major effort to find an alternative fuel supply.

True enough. Getting rid of Saddam will most likely make our country a safer place to live (although it might also invite more terrorist attacks). I certainly won't shed a tear when the news comes across the wires that Saddam is dead. One less sick soul in the world.
