You're right about the problems, but it never affected the stock and, IMO, they're History.

Anyway, Metro has by far the best financials between Sobeys and Loblaws. The company is almost debt-free and has a big participation in ATD.b (TSE), which would probably used to finance and acquisition in the West.

Of course, I don't say that Sobeys or Loblaws don't have their chances, but the better value right now (if you consider book value and the likes) is definitely MRU.a. And if management isn't able to strike a deal, I believe it could become a target in itself as time goes by.
