Condor, In the US, a quick win(results) will give bush and insurmountable lead unless the economy fails to revive. If iraq falls quickly and without much bloodshed, and the most horrific wmds are found and displayed for all to see, do you think it even possible that you might change your mind? A reverse example with things going way bad, I would have to reexamine my assumptions. Or is it the ends never justify the means thing for you alone. I go back to WW2 when isolationists thru in the towel after pearl harbor. Equivalent of pearl harbor would be the opening up to world view of these horrific weapons. Mike

No, Chretiens position is fully in step with the sentiments of the population at large regarding the US-Iraq situation. I saw a mini Town Hall type show on CBC Newsworld last night. The anti-American feeling was so intense I was shocked. I thought it was starting to cross the line from anger to hatred. I very much hope that is not the trend. There is no doubt that Chretien is doing what the majority (outside Alberta) feel is the right thing. However, I think Chretien is increasingly in disfavour on other dometic issues. His term is up in Feb/04. Many would like to see him leave now. It will be interesting to see what Paul Martin (most likely Chretien replacement in 11 months for the non-canucks) has to say. The right political strategy for him right now is to say little and make no commitments but at some point he will have to say something. My guess is he will take the position of healer-in-chief for the US relationship. He is probably the right guy to do it as well, he is respected on both sides of the border. Paul
