C2,
Usually its the young colonels--the generals are too discredited and probably on the run and there is no tradition of civilian rule. Colonels cut a deal to let US come in and remove wmds. Exiles return. Return to civilian rule down the road, sooner rather than later. Thats just one scenario. I wouldnt be surprised at all if we give that scenario a bit of time. Perhaps one more night without shock and awe. mike

how does a new government get established this quickly?

"Law and Order," C2, that will be the problem. How do we "De Baath" the Iraqi law and order system? We have to have Iraqi Police and Judges, you really can't do it with our Military very long. But where are we going to get qualified Iraqis other than the present people?

I would love to see some give and take here on this one.

If, as I think is probable, we got Saddam last night, there are a whole new set of unexpected problems to deal with--how does a new government get established this quickly? Are we prepared to take over so soon? What do we do with the rest of the psychopaths? What happens to the still fully-armed and presumably dangerous Republican Guards and the Special Republican Guards?

Add a couple of hundred dilemmas to your list and you have the reason the left thinks war was a bad solution. NOWWW you start thinking?

It is interesting that in the midst of a war you are still judging and pre-occupied with the silly pissing contest between the so called right and left.

You're spending way too much time flattering yourself with presumed psychic forays into the mind of "the left." Your talents would be much better used elsewhere.

>>how does a new government get established this quickly?

pretty much ready to go I think

>>Are we prepared to take over so soon?

What? A day or two earlier?

>>What do we do with the rest of the psychopaths?

Several hundred to a couple of thousand will be arrested.

>>What happens to the still fully-armed and presumably dangerous Republican Guards and the Special Republican Guards?

They will surrender or die.
