That is the essence of the extreme left position. They can't put forth an argument that makes any overall sense at all, so they use one-liners. And they are very good at it.

I have a theory. I think on most political issues Americans don't have the time to dig in and learn the facts for themselves, so they rely on 'quick' sources that they've agreed with in the past (political leaders, newspaper op-ed, etc.). This is why one-liners that are covered by the media are so effective. And democrats have historically been a lot better at it.

But when an issue becomes important enough, things change. For whatever reason (more coverage, more interest, whatever), the public digs into it and learns the underlying facts. When this happens, the incorrect and/or insincere one-liners can actually backfire, because more people actually understand the issue. I think this may be what happened with Daschle's comments the other day. Only time will tell, but I bet he has hurt his and his party's political future.

EDIT: Of course there are many on both sides of the spectrum that will simply believe what they want regardless of the facts. I'm not going ted mention any names or examples though. I'm talking about everyone but the extremes.

BWDIK,

JJ
