The problem with discussing this topic with these folks is their odd definition of pork. Any measure that lowers anyone's tax rate they call pork. Comes from their socialist perspective that anything you get to keep is a gift from the collective.

In a lot of ways we agree. Though i'm sure we'd disagree over what fair and proportionate means.

Why should income be the measure? Why not wealth?

As a democracy, we choose our economic system. If we choose a market based system which creates inequities that offend our sense of decency and threaten the domestic tranquility, aren't we also free to choose to address and mitigate those inequities?

Obviously we get the government we deserve. If more people thought like you, or more people thought like me, there would be more representatives who represented our (different) views, and government policy would also better represent our views.
