i think you are wasting your breath. his name calling, baiting and "fatuous" implied comparisons indicate someone unlikely to be swayed by reason or common sense.

<<I thought Kuwait paid the most, or maybe Japan? The most casualties, of course, were obviously suffered by Iraq; but I think US losses were less even than British losses (mainly via 'friendly fire'...).>>

Well you are wrong. The US lost over 250 personnel. Most from the crash of a B-52. Iraq's losses were regretful but not a part of the allied effort. Financially, the Japanese and Kuwait certainly helped. But any suggestion that they compensated the US logistics cost is absurd.

Re:<<I made no comparison of Saddam to Hitler, that's fatuous. I pointed out that the UN charter declares a pre-emptive war as unequivocally wrong except in self-defence or with SC approval... >>

What a canard. No one said you made a comparison of Saddam to Hitler. What you did try to do was make a comparison of the Allied attack on Iraq to that of Hitler into Denmark and Norway suggesting that both would be equally tantamount to war crimes.

The definition of self-defence is relative and not required to satisfy your scrutiny. The US has no intention to wait and see how Saddam intended to use weapons he had no business building. Just because Saddam's dance partners wanted to block the action is no argument for permission.

In my opinion your PM is a true hero and a great leader. He has the courage to to what is right despite the political costs... I wish there were many more like him.
