"Not sure which threadsters live in BA, but know Tim does - do we have any local power plants close to the BA? "

No. Rancho Seco was near Sacramento, but it closed many years ago.

The big one is Diablo Canyon, west of San Luis Obispo (between Morro Bay and Pismo Beach, in a very isolated and secure stretch of the coast).

Wind is easterly, of course, so even a complete meltdown of Diablo would likely have no effect on areas as far north as Cambria and as far south as Santa Maria. SLO might get whacked, though.

There are greater threats.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Bush administration official said that recent intelligence indicates that the Palo Verde nuclear power plant near Phoenix, Arizona, could be targeted by terrorists.

The Bush administration seems to have a lot of intelligence like this. My question is, is this just background noise that has always been there or some real, heightened danger.
