Haim, Ah, good catch. I had forgotten his birthplace as I always associate him with his kingdoms of Syria and Egypt. Ayub supported the Sultan Zengi and his kid won appointment as Emir of Egypt from that relationship. After Saladin killed off all of Zengi's surviving relatives, his line of sultans were referred to as the Ayubbites. 30 years after the date of Saladin's death, the Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II (Stupor Mundi), was still friendly with the Ayubbite sultans. They were eventually killed off by their palace guards, the Mameluks, who took over and finally kicked the French crusaders out of the Middle East.
