their military expenditures are less than that of Russia which is roughly one sixth of that of the US.

China always understates its military expenditures. And there is no way to know the correct numbers. Besides, the salary that China pays its soldiers is only 3 to 10% of the US. So it's difficult to compare military expenditures from country to country.

Their military remains archaic

9/11 was perpetrated with boxcutters. Linear thinking isn't enough. One of the big problems with the invasion of Iraq is that it's too dependent on linear thinking.

Perhaps in ten years they will be approaching US economic power, its military power will be no where near the US in ten years.
