Our favorite Barron's reporter on retirement areas:
Our list is rather subjective. We've eliminated vast swaths of the U.S., including some areas that have long attracted seniors of all stripes. For example, we decided to drop from consideration the Southwest, stretching from Texas and New Mexico to Arizona (sorry Austin, Santa Fe and Sedona). Global warming has made these areas uninhabitable for more than half of the year.
Guess I'll just have to move north....
