First of all, let me say that SI has a plethora of threads ... many devoted to individual companies, to be sure, but loads and loads of others where similarly feathered fowl can gather for conversation. This is just another one of those places. Some of these gathering places are defined be particular investment strategies, some aren't. Some aren't even about investing! This one is defined by people who see value in Moore's model of how it is that tech companies evolve. That there are many other good topics of conversation, no one doubts ... but that is what we talk about here.

There's rather a lot of evidence to the contrary.

I think that you will find that this board on the whole has a view different from the simplistic notion that being a gorilla is all the information one needs to know. In fact, this board disagreed with a number of claims from the books and their authors, even before there was such a dramatic reason to do so.

this answer is non determinant in the investment decision, then it begs the question "why bother"?

Because *every* answer or point of information is non-determinant taken on its own. We who have found a home on this board ... unlike some of its visitors ... find that the TALC provides us with an important insight into the very aspect of tech investing which typically provides the greatest challenge -- understanding the significance of the technology itself.
