Turkey Intends to Send Troops Into Northern Iraq

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul told reporters that Turkish troops would enter northern Iraq to prevent an influx of refugees across its borders, but gave no date for an incursion, Reuters is reporting from Ankara.

Turkey's armed forces would also enter the Iraqi Kurdish enclave to prevent "terrorist activity," he said.

The United States and its Kurdish allies have warned that a Turkish incursion could result in clashes with their forces and also prompt other neighboring nations to occupy parts of Iraq.
