I think it was conduct that MOST Americans (even those opposed to this War) don't appreciate. It also served to paint the Democrats in a corner they'd rather not be in at this moment. Nobody in the US wants this effort to go poorly yet thats exactly what needed to happen for the Democrats to appear correct. Now we see that France (a country in major opposition to the war) had a ricin scare so that pretty much eliminates the no war = no terrorism logic.
