There was more to it than that. US supported every terrorist group that was willing to pick up arms against the regime. MEK is only a small example of that which eventually even the State department called a terrorist group. Carter also pushed Saddam to invade Iran (not that Saddam was not happy to oblige). America pushed for economic embargo of Iran and did everything possible to isolate them. They blocked Iran's attempts to bring Iraq's use of chemical weapons to international attention. etc. etc. Short of direct invasion, there is little America did not do.

Well, it is easy to say that when you can twist the word "serious" to your own purposes. You are correct, in that we never sent 500,000 troops into Teheran.

However, we armed and kept contacts with the Iranian military from the moment the Ayatollah's took power. This is our standard tactic to induce a coup.
