He's probably dead. When they removed him from the rubble with that oxygen mask over his face, the mask was probably put there to hide his crushed skull.

OTOH, the British cabinet has supposedly been told by intel sources that Saddam was very badly injured but still lives, and has had a blood transfusion.

Even if that is true, he is not a young man, and who knows what level of leadership he can still pull off, if any.
