I believe that is the stupidest post ever posted on SI. You sound like you think you are some sort of martyr or something. Nothing could be further from the truth, you are just a WWP buttkissing moron.

Actually, I thought that was the most thoughtful, well constructed post from PartyTime that I've read since these threads made it to the hot list.

I also fear the "end game" might not be as easy as Gen. Franks and the administration is making it sound.

What a total load of bull shit. I like the added touch where you describe our soldiers as unrested and in need of help. I guess you base all this on when you were a soldier? You sound like the Iraqi Information Ministry when you post. And even you will have to admit that I am not exaggerating on that point. Sorry you are so depressed, check out the stories of the Iraqis cheering and happy, or. play this song, maybe that will cheer you up.:)

<< Fact of the matter is I've been and am very depressed by what I'm seeing ... >>

Yeh, seeing the oppressed Iraqis being liberated would depress your selfish mind, wouldn't it?

There is nothing in it for you. So, what the hell. Why bother with the Iraqis. Let Saddam's regime continue to starve and torture them. Only a good round of Saddam's torturing some kid will bring you out of your depression! <g>

<< And the prospect of attempting to capture this city of 5.5 million. against well fortified and entrenched urban Iraqi positions should give all us cause for deep depression. >>

Don't worry about depression. There are stories of Saddam's henchmen torturing and murdering innocent Iraqis. This should lift your depression.

<< This is more a time for prayer and hope ... >>

Are your prayers that you will recieve a personal video tape of Saddam torturing someone? I can just see you watching the blood and guts, and screams. A big smile comes to your face, and all depression is lifted. Man! That would be your lucky day!!!

Very good post PT and I share your sentiments. I don't think Syria and Iran will come in - but feel in general that America has crossed a Rubicon for ill.

I also think that the people pulling the strings in this Adminstration are playing with fire on all fronts now. I'm quite an old fellow but feel deeply affected by what I've seen since 9/11 and the opportunism of those who would curtail civil liberties. On another thread someone wrote about Iraq being like a communist state (he meant totalitarian I believe) citing 'secret police, torture chambers and so on, and I couldn't help thinking that if people in America are not vigilant the same will happen there - in fact torture now seems to be de riguer, and a Secret Police under Ashcroft is a stones throw away.

The Bushies have so divided society that it's entirely possible that a next generation of terrorists may be home grown - clever, scientific, working in small groups. I'm not talking about militia types at all, but people who see themselves as true patriots and who are prepared to use extreme methods.

I think it's generally accepted in the intelligence community that the Iraq war is going to lead to untold hatred of America abroad and provide fertile ground for the recruitment of terrorists. But they should look to the home front where there is no shortage of brains and idealism

PT.....

There are no well entrenched urban positions.....the RG defending Baghdad, six divisions, are outside the city....

No one predicted the war would be over in a couple of days....

Urban areas which have offered resistance have been bypassed and isolated (like Basrah).

US forces have moved about 150 miles into Iraq and operations are proceeding in the North, West and South....IMO, by mid April it will all be over....

UPI Reports..A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."
