Lizzie, do you think Iraq's economy can be strong enough to allow political stability without oil exports? In a few years, Iraq will likely be the fastest growing economy in the region (maybe in the world?) simply because they have huge resources and an educated, sophisticated population. For the last 20+ years both the resources and the skills of the people have been diverted to making war on neighbors, oppressing the population, building weapons, building palaces, and enriching Saddam and his henchmen. That is ending and soon Iraq's economy will awaken, free to sell oil to the world to gain, instead of weapons for Saddam, goods and services they need to make the country much greater than Saddam ever could. For you to suggest that the war is "about oil" because soon the Iraqi people will be able to benefit from that massive source of the country's wealth is simply ridiculous.

May Take Time to Get Iraqi Oil on Market

<<Why is this even an issue? This war is about WMDs, right?>>

Well according to the article you posted oil is an issue because U.S. planners see Iraqi oil as essential to rebuilding the country.

Regards, Huey

<This war is about WMDs, right?> Sure, it is all about WMD -- right you are. The country is just teeming with WMD. They are overflowing with WMD. Zillions of tons loaded onto delivery systems -- not to mention all the nuclear materials and nuclear weapons -- ya, right. And al Qaeda everywhere you look in Iraq -- preparing to attack us "again"! Of course it is not about Iraq have the largest potential for oil production of any country in the world -- heavens no. And it is certainly not some sort of personal vendetta and it has nothing to do with some screwball far right-wing armchair interpretation of our destiny as "liberators" of the middle east and Asia in some sort of sequential regime change domino delusion. Heavens no.
