To: Kevin Rose who wrote (376428 ) 3/22/2003 6:07:37 PM From: American Spirit Respond to of 769667 I am fairly moderate, yes. I like Kerry, McCain, Feinstein, but not so much Dean, certainly not Sharpton or Bonior, even if I defend them sometimes from those "evil" attacks of the far right. Liberals are hardly evil. In fact their strong idealism springs from true concern about making this a better country and world. And they really do care about working people and the poor as opposed to the rich and giant corporations. I share with them a strong concern for the environment. But I do not want a Euro style socialist government or higher taxes to pay for that, as much as SOME of that certainly makes sense. So I'm a moderate. Inbetween. The extreme right of the Bushies just makes me SEEM like a liberal. But like most Americans I'm a hybrid somewhere in the vast middle. My only gripe with liberals is that sometimes they're a little naive and unrealistic. After 9-11, we have to be tough. AT least for awhile. And we do need tough law enforcement. But my gripe with the GOP is they tend to not punish corporate and white collar crooks and put away petty thieves for life. That does not make sense at all. Ken Lay probably deserves the death penalty. Or at least a lifetime of misery. After this war perhaps we can gradually bring back peace, prosperity and high idealism. But you cannot govern America from a purely liberal perspective. Nor a far right perspective. If you try, you will lose. Also, we're going to need a new presdient. We've had two wars now. That is enough. We've proven how tough we are and have gotten revenge. Just clean up Al Qaida, stay tough with regimes like Iran and North Korea (but talk with them and offer them incentives only if they change) and let's get the world functioning again.
