That wouldn't do anything. We'd still have a recalcitrant Saddam instead of what we have in the pliant Saudi's etc. Dropping sanctions would not get Saddam to be our buddy like the Saudi's are.

It's about Saddam's ability to use oil as power. Which he would if he could especially if it turns out he has 30% of the worlds reserves and especially in light of how fast we waste energy. He holds enough that sooner or later he could disrupt the worlds economies.

Now as I have said numerous times, that may be justification enough, our leaders have some obligation to protect our countries economy. But tell the truth. I don't like to be lied to.

How do you account for the fact that we have supported numerous dictators just as ruthless? We didn't try to get rid of the Shah or Pinochet. On the contrary we continue to help our old dictators whenever we can.
