I have two -- no, make that three -- things to say to those mobs that are chanting "This is what Democracy looks like."

One: you need to retake Civics 101. Our federal government is NOT a democracy. It is a republic.

Two: I would wager that most of those people don't like democracy when they see it. California's Proposition 13 was democracy in action. Do they approve of it? California's anti-affirmative action proposition, I don't recall the number, was What Democracy Looks Like. Are they applauding the success of true democracy in action? In Washington, most of the Initiatives Tim Eyman has proposed and gotten passed have, after being passed by vote of the people, been fought tooth and nail in the courts by the same people who are now out on the streets demonstrating. So much for their belief in Democracy.

Three: I hope they are taking a moment to appreciate that it was my ancestors and their compatriots who secured for them, by blood, the right to demonstrate against their government -- a right I can assure them no Iraqi enjoys today.
