Just as corporations can lie (Enron, Worldcom) so can government leaders. You see Saddam's leaders lying 90% of the time. They are extreme liars but dont think ours can't and don't lie too. Clinton lied about sex. Bush has lied about his positions, past and intentions. Cheney lied about the energy crisis and Saddam-Al Qaida connections. Nixon, Johnson lied repeatedly. It happens and it can cost us.

It is our responsibility as citizens to make sure that when our leaders lie they pay the price. Checks and balances are the key to a successful democracy, even in times of war. Of course if we're actually being attacked you have to put your faith in the leaders. Otherwise question authority wisely. Always. When we stop, we become sheep and more like those "evil" dictatorships where lying is a daily occurence.
