shortly after the first world war, the british are the ones who carved up the map and formed the borders to kuwait. kuwait was a british protectorate from the turn of the century until 1961. iraqis have long believed kuwait was part of iraq. they weren't happy with the way the lines on the map were drawn. why do you think saddam was looking for an excuse to take it back in 1990? he didn't just invade kuwait without a reason.
