<<I get the francophone channels on Echostar including Belgium, Switzerland, etc, and it's pretty much solidly
anti-American, you'd think bin Laden's goal to get the entire world against the USA is succeeding.>>

I agree the US Press seems to be slanted towards success but somebody has to try to counteract the claims of Saddam that he is winning the war- meaning to uninformed troops "keep fighting we are winning"
Baghdad will soon be surrounded and the critical part arrives, to save civilians.
What is the chance Saddam will sink his own ship- and take everyone in town with him?
It seems that infiltrators or defectors will be most important here-perhaps some high level defectors already
in US hands can give power locations or clues to what Saddam has in mind which would help determine the
best approach.
Meanwhile the Bagdad glass companies will have to be buying signs and Ads saying "help wanted"
Other may read " Palace cleaning lady wanted. Steady work . Must have own backhoe and heavy equipment operators permit . No medical or dental. Chemical protective suit and masks provided. Apply in basement."

How strange to see freeway traffic while 70 cruise missiles are coming into town. Some Iraqis may be mad, but
they have learned to trust the US which is very important. More than we could say for France

> It's pretty naive to expect any unbiased reporting in major media

I don't expect such a thing. What I expect, is for some American media to engage in massive propaganda in one way, while some foreign media engages in antiamerican propaganda from the other side. By careful examination and contrast of these two, one should be able to make an educated guess as to where the truth lies.

For now they don't feel threatened enough because most people prefer to be glued to CNN and Fox News.

Ben Franklin once said, "Those who surrender their liberty to be safe, deserve neither safety nor liberty". I think that lesson has been lost to many in America.

Some of what's on TV seems to hit amazing levels of "dumbing down"

I think the problem is not as much with the quality or trustworthiness of the TV reporting, as with the sheer amount of it... There is simply not enough to talk about – nothing can be enough to talk about – 24 hours a day 7/week.

The infinity of "links" out there on the Net doesn't really help with the "truth"... 95+ % of the time it will merely help a person find "confirmation" for whatever it was they wanted to hear in the first place....
