Well, to be fair about it, they did provide some balance in selling arms to the persians at the same time, to get the money to destroy schools and clinics in between torture and murder of nicaragüenses

.. this is from the book Don't Be Afraid Gringo, by a woman of Honduras, Elvia Alvarado -

' ... I don't understand why Ronald Reagan hates Nicaragua so
much. What has Nicaragua done to Ronald? I don't know
where he got this hatred from.

Maybe Nicaragua did something to the United States that I
don't know about. But it seems that the United States just
wants to dominate all of Central America. And since Nicara-
gua doesn't want to be dominated, that's why the United
States hates it. Because Nicaragua refuses to give in.

I've been thinking about this a lot. It seems to me that if
Ronald Reagan loses in Nicaragua, he'll lose in all of Central
America. But if he defeats Nicaragua, then he's got it made.
He's already got Honduras, so that's two countries. And with
Nicaragua and Honduras he can go on to take El Salvador.
That's three Central American republics under U.S. control.
Then Guatemala will follow. That's what Ronald Reagan
wants. And he knows that if he loses in Nicaragua, he loses
all his interests in Central America.

If I could talk to Ronald Reagan, I'd tell him he's on the
wrong track. I'd tell him to stop being so unjust with us
Central Americans.

Sometimes I think that I shouldn't be talking like this,
because maybe Ronald will tell the Hondurans to get rid of
me. And since the Honduran government does everything
the United States says, I'd be a dead duck.

But to tell you the truth, I think that Ronald's government
is the stupidest government I've seen in my life. He calls us
communists, but he's the one that's doing all the damage. If
it's true that communists are so bad, that they take away all
your freedom, then our government in Honduras is commu-
nist, and Ronald Reagan is the biggest communist of them
all.

I don't understand what business Ronald has sticking his
nose into Nicaragua. And what business does he have in
Honduras? Someone needs to have a heart-to-heart talk with
Ronald and tell him that things in Central America have to
change, whether he likes it or not.'
