I'm not sure either. Hopefully, some of our tech experts here can chime in and tell us what would keep Cisco's margins high vs what happened to PCs and now servers.

I do think Lucent and Juniper would argue the monopoly bit. Lucent made the mistake of not going to voice over IP soon enough I am told from a friend that worked at Lu, then went to Cisco then got laid off and now works elsewhere.

I've heard rumors you can buy Cisco-like routers out of China that are knockoffs where they use pirate software. I'm not sure how they get around the custom chip designs that are done with PLAs and ASICs....
