Home or Office Pickup of Unwanted Printers Extends Dell Environmental Commitment

Dell Invites Others to Join in Lowering Cost, Increasing Ease of Electronics Recycling

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 2003-- Customers who purchase Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - News) printers can now recycle their outdated printers at no additional cost, and without ever having to leave their home or office.

Dell today announced the convenient option -- an industry first among major electronics companies -- available to any customer in the continental United States who purchases a new Dell printer. The service is Dell's most recent commitment in its drive to expand electronics recycling.

"Dell is serious about motivating consumers to recycle electronics products," said Pat Nathan, Dell's senior executive for environmental affairs. "Our customers tell us they want recycling to be easy and affordable.

"We have listened to our customers and invite all parties who truly want to encourage recycling to join us in lowering the cost and increasing the ease with which customers can help protect the environment," Nathan said.

Kate Krebs, executive director of the National Recycling Coalition, said, "It's the most compelling opportunity to recycle in the consumer-electronics industry. Dell is setting a higher standard for environmental stewardship."

Any customer who purchases a new Dell printer can recycle their old one simply by putting it in the box their new Dell printer came in, attaching the pre-paid shipping label supplied by Dell, and following the return instructions enclosed with their new printer. Customers can go online at www.airborne.com to arrange for printers of any make to be picked up at their home or office.

The printer-recycling offer enhances the recycling and reuse options available through the Dell Recycling program. It also serves to ensure responsible recycling of dated equipment -- a critical component of Dell's environmental stewardship.

Last week, Dell announced another recycling program enhancement that enables customers to order home pickup of unwanted notebooks, desktops, monitors and other select computer equipment for $15 per unit. The online service is available now, and more information is available at www.dell4me.com/recycling. Customers who purchase the service or donate used equipment through the National Cristina Foundation receive an online discount good for 10 percent off their next online purchase on the Dell Home Systems Software & Peripherals Web site(a).

Dell also is staging a five-city tour to help customers donate or recycle unwanted systems free of charge in Nashville, Tenn.; Charlotte, N.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Portland, Ore.; and Austin, Texas.

At each event, consumers will be able to bring their used computer equipment to a designated location for donation or recycling. By Sunday, April 27, Dell's goal is to collect 100 tons of equipment to donate or recycle. For more information, visit www.dell4me.com/recycling. Dell also offers business customers a complete range of reuse and recycling options, with information available at www.dell.com/assetrecovery.
