Maybe the Middle East should be inundated with polls of what the West thinks
of them ? Fair play ?

Cool. Great point.

Why isn't Jacob out there condemning France for not governing its behavior by what the US polls say we think about it?

Polls don't tell me what I should do. I know what side I'm on, and where I want to go, and that doesn't change whether 2% or 98% of my fellow Americans agree with me.

Polls tell us what the score is, in the game we're playing. I see this War as a contest of memes, a struggle of two-to-four competing Big Ideas.

I am short-term pessimistic, and long-term optimistic. Eventually, I think the meme of Democracy will win, defeating both Islamism, and also defeating the Imperialism championed by the current U.S. Government. But it's going to be a long, long war. And, as a U.S. citizen, my priority task is re-taking my own homeland.
