My late father served in the division (US 11th Armored) which captured the Mautausen extermination camp in Austria in May, 1945. The SS garrison was ordered to fight to the death, and the geniuses in Berlin figured they would, since they were stuck defending their own damning crimes.

In the actual event, however, these cowardly sewer rats bought old close from the villagers and ran off into the woods, where they had to be rounded up with infantry sweeps. They were than held for the eventual tribunals (except for a few, who were "escaped" into the hands of some of the former inmates at night. Accidents, as they say, will happen "and we don't gotta FEED the bastards now.")

As the mechanized troops, with their artillery and air support, close in on Baghdad, AS's pal, Saddam will have fewer and fewer friends. It's uncanny-human nature. And we may wind up not having to FEED some of the bastards now...
