"China WCDMA2003"

>> WCDMA Boosts China's Mobile Communication Industry

China Communications
January 2003

When the New Year just begins, "China WCDMA2003", sponsored by five leading manufacturers in the industry including Ericsson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia, and Siemens, was held in Beijing on January 15.

"Create new Opportunities for Profit, Build Mobile New life" is the theme of the meeting. WCDMA experts from international renowned operators NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone, and scholars from Chinese research institutions concerned and representatives from five major operators put forth their views. They made all round analyses and presentations of latest technological developments and market applications of WCDMA from global industrial situation, technical standards and other angles.

Presently, 80 percent of global mobile communication operators plan to operate or deploy, or are operating and deploying, WCDMA. More than 100 WCDMA licenses have been issued worldwide. The industry has been able to ensure smooth transition of over 800 million mobile communication subscribers across the globe to WCDMA. In addition, WCDMA also provides new operators with rapid, economical network construction solution, and enable operators to enjoy extra benefit brought about by global seamless roaming.

It is learned that all major manufacturers have accumulated certain WCDMA technological and industrial capability in their own country. And, Chinese operators' increasingly perfect GSM network development and Chinese customers' growing application demands create rosy prospects for the market development of WCDMA in China.
