i have had 15 major operations in my life(my vet friends call it My War, they know i have known hell), i know extreme stress also for other reasons; i know what is to be on the run, and know what it is to feel billy clubs and paddy wagons; i have had deep friendships with Vietnam War vets(several via VVATW, but not all VVATW and we talk).
Also i have read ,i feel and i know i am empathic.
I say this because i know how that question can be twisted into "then shut up" kind of answer.

But i also state, the book JARHEAD, can take a lot of people to the Persian Gulf who have never been there.
This is someone telling the truth--a marine that isn't giving any BS.
it is as good a book ever written on what it is about.
But yes i was one those cursed and hated Activist from 62-75, you know one those you would like to strangle.
And you know what Jocko, i AM PROUD TO SAY THAT! Just as i can dig a man saying i fought in that bloody war in Vietnam and i am proud i did. Max p.s. but i will NEVER say i am proud of the Governments that sent the boys to Vietnam(and damned they were boys, just boys).
