Daschle's comments represented the majority view until the war was imminent. Until Bush made it clear he was dropping the Un and going it alone, most Americans agreed diplomacy was the best way to create the greatest coalition and that's the way they wanted it.

All of us support our troops (and temporarily our president) when war is going forward and happening. But before and after we are entitled to speak what we consider to be the truth. Though I'm not one of them, even today 30% of Americans oppose the war. That is a big chunk of votrers who need representation. And once the war ends, a lot more than 30% will share Daschle's viewpoint. Still Daschle has come out strongly in support of our warriors during the fight, and he is himself a veteran.
