The poll of 345 likely Democratic New York voters was conducted by Zogby International on February 22-23, and has a margin of error of +/- 5.4%. Margins are higher in sub-groups. Lieberman earned 14% of the vote, followed by Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt (12%), Civil rights advocate Rev. Al Sharpton (9%), and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry (7%). North Carolina Senator John Edwards tallied 4% of the respondents, followed by former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, former Senator and Ambassador Carol Moseley-Braun, and former Colorado Senator and presidential contender Gary Hart, all at 3%. The New York State primary election is likely to be held in June 2004, nearly 16 months away. At this early date, 38% of likely Democratic primary voters say they are still undecided. Different regions of the state favor different candidates The Zogby New York poll showed Gephardt as the favorite candidate Upstate with nearly a 2-1 lead over Lieberman (17-10%) and Kerry in third place with 8%. In New York City, Sharpton was the strongest with 13% of the vote, followed closely by Lieberman (12%) and Gephardt (11%). On Long Island and the counties North of New York City to the Catskills, Lieberman commanded the most support (21%), followed by Kerry (14%) and Gephardt (12%).
