Agree with some of your points. Differentiating between civilians and combatants in a geurilla war is all but impossible. This will make things messy.

However, I do not believe the Ba'athists have the support of the locals. Only time will tell us the answer. You cannot make this claim 5 days into a war which is where I take exception. There is no way for either of us to win the argument until the battle progresses.

I do believe the US is still fighting with kid gloves & this is a mistake. A country cannot go to war being overly concerned with civilian casualties. I was opposed to the way Bush got us into this war. But now we are here & we should be fighting to win, not praying for a quick surrender.

Do you honestly believe that Saddam's party has anywhere near the same level of support which Ho Chi Minh had? I find such a notion preposterous. Ho created a grassroots revolution. He came to power on a wave of popular support. Saddam represses his people & came to power through narrow polticial & violent struggles among a very thin segment of the populace. There is no comparison.

Agreed the population is not happy about a US occupation. I think the vast majority would prefer it to a continued Saddam regime, though.
