Bush didn't know the name of the president of Pakistan (I think that was the country) during the campaigns if I recall, so not being fully up to speed on the political complexities of the Iran/Iraq region isn't surprising.

It was CANADA ... he call the PM Jean Poutine.

We have a state department to advise the President. Bush's lack of knowledge of international obscure countries and leaders was understandable as he started with his campaign.

He has certainly shown his capacity to be a fast learner.

There was a cartoon of Bush after that in which he was saying, "the bombing of the L shaped country will continue until...what's his name...the guy with the mustache surrenders". This was suppose to be a joke. It is not funny when it becomes reality.

The problem with letting the advisors "educate" a president who knows so little is it promotes the advisors to "handlers". Yes the president doesn't need to know every little detail. But if he is completely clueless, then how can he think out of the box or combine various suggestions to make a good choice?
