Yes. The alternative of breaking up the country would annoy too many people, especially the Turks.

It is an excellent experience. Figure out why it fell apart and avoid those mistakes. Lessons from why Lebenan's system failed are also good reminders.

Yes but it is far from the Shia resistance movement. Basra has historically been a trading port and therefore more cosmopolitan than the rest of Iraq. The real Shia resistance center is Najaf.

I've always been clear about that Mike <g> Can you tell me why he prevented the population to reach arms depotes and why he did not shoot down the Iraqi gunships shooting into the civilians? There are many shades between occupation and inaction.
