The "real" peaceniks like Veterans Against Iraq War,

Kinda funny you mention that.. An associate of mine, who is a Vietnam Vet, was at the Vietnam Memorial this weekend when some of the above group (or affiliated) came to lay a wreath at the memorial..

One of them held an upside down US flag (sign of distress) and tried to carry it to the memorial.. My buddy politely told the guy that "I respect your right to protest the war, but I will not permit you to carry the US flag in that manner near the memorial. It is a sign of distress.. And you are clearly not in distress, but merely upset"..

Well, he said they exchanged a few more "words" on the subject, as well as the war, and after a few minutes the guy's friends had returned from laying their wreath, basically rendering the point moot, as the flag-carrier rejoined his buddies...

That was the way to handle that situation..

That's not totally correct. For some of us it is pure loathing.
