I hope President Bush and company didn't miscalculate about the resolve the Iraqi people to defend their country, much like Johnson miscalcuated the resolve of the Viet Namese to defend their land. As hated as Saddam is in Iraq, there are people who have a vested interest in seeing him stay in power and they will fight to do so. Also, sometimes even fierce poltical opponents will come together when their country is under attack. Even Iraqis feel patriotic about their country. Better the devil you know and indpendence from foreigners than to allow an foreign occupying force to take over the country. Who knows? Our success will ultimately depend upon how Iraqis feel about Saddam vs. foreign occupation.
