<<what do you think about the number of troops we have- too small?>>

Not really. Turkey saying no AFTER the rails and trains had been rented did hurt. OTOH the equipment of 4th army will be arriving soon after going through the Red Sea and up the Gulf. The men will then fly in. 50k of fresh tough troops will help a lot.

This thing started so suddenly that the old Gulf War 1 plan of bomb them for 57 days and fight for 100 hours went out the window. Intel said shoot, Saddam and the boys are here. We shot. May or may not have nailed them. At the same time our planes knocked out Iraqi artillery that had bio-chem shells ready to lob into our troops in Kuwait.

Our troops rolled and Special Forces nailed the oil fields and and the loading stations. Polish special forces helped our SEALS take the loading stations. Special forces also took 2 Iraqi air bases. Beats flying from Turkey.

Now the strategy has been to move fast and skip major pockets of resistence. That does leave your rear open and you do pay for any mistakes like turning down the wrong road. OTOH you can skip the close in fighting and killing a lot of civilians. Cut off the supplies and those pockets will wither and quit.

We could use 100,000 more coalition troops from European countries whom Bush turned off and refused to listen to. That is the difference. We will need them even more after the fighting.
