Tommaso, >>>>In 1937 Hitler had the biggest war machine in Europe--perhaps in the world.<<<<

Just for grins - At that time France was generally considered to have the largest and most powerful military in the world. Didn't do them much good did it?

<<So if you want to make arguments, argue that in his little corner of the world, Saddam is worse than Hitler. But it's a very small corner. >>

This isn't valid. Hitler did not possess weapons of mass destruction.

I do not know if you are right or left Tommaso, but the peacenik leftie protestors have great difficulties coming up with a solution of their own to the Saddam WMD problem. Generally what I hear from the left is the Saddam is not bothering anyone except his own people, and the war is all about oil. The left-wing solution is to simply leave Iraq alone, it seems.

Assume we did just that. Things die down for 4 or 5 years. The West gets complacent. Then one fateful day reminiscent of Sept 11, terrorists set off a simultaneous array of chemical, biological and small-scale nuclear weapons in 10 large American cities. 2 million innocent Americans perish that morning, another 2 million die slowly over the next few weeks.

All weapons designed and manufacured in Iraq.

Iraq as you say is not overunning anyone, but to imply that they are not dangerous is not reasonable.

>>Come on, Ed. Iraq is not overunning anyone. The analogy had more relevance in the first Gulf War. In 1937

The ability to wipe out large geography for thousands of years through the use of "dirty bombs", or to genetically destroy huge numbers of people for infinite generations to come through the use of chemical attacks was not available to Hitler. However, the power of these "tools" gives a "Hussein" as much power as Hitler. His determination and involvement in terrorist networks shows he is, indeed, as much of a threat to the world.

The power the U.S. alone has to set the precedent that such weapons must not proliferate has been used, and, I pray, wisely.
