The gossip about why Frum is out is that his wife bragged in an email to all her friends that he was the author of the "axis of evil" phrase, and this got leaked. Bad form, because it's not polite to mention that the President doesn't write his own speeches, or, for that matter, that his hair is combed and blowdried and sprayed before a speech. (I like him better with his natural hair (curly), personally.) Actually Frum wrote "axis of" something else, and Dubya struck out whatever the something else was and put in "evil." So he wrote half of the "axis of evil" phrase, or two thirds if you want to be precise. And you already know I think "axis of evil" was dumb. But based on what he's done since he left I think he must have been thrown out for other reasons, as well. Anyway he wrote a rather stupid book trying to capitalize on his experiences, which is selling because so far he's the only person disloyal enough to Dubya to kiss and tell. Which suggests to me that he's really, really, really on the outs, because he's burned his bridges. You don't kiss and tell on Dubya, and remain his friend.
