I believe the Iraqi people has failed the test. Perhaps no people would have had the chance. You may be aainst the local Hitler-but he still owns the streets, and you'll do what you're told.

We have adjusted, as anyone does in war. By the end of this week-barring capitulation-there will be nothing left of Baghdad but rat-infested cellars...

BTW: Armor was the world's very first "precision" weapons system, designed to bypass the less-important, and concentrate overwhelming fire on the more important. The fundamental REQUIREMENT is to string the infantry out behind the advance to bottle up or destroy that which is bypassed.

Only when the infantry has completed that critical task can they move back to the spearhead-and prepare for the same task again. Even despite the friendly reception given the Allied armies in France in August/September, 1944, the armies reached the Mosell, Meuse, and Rhine with their infantry strung out back for hundreds of miles.

Whoever decided to run the armor north without manning the occupied territory needs to go back to the academy-and NOT as a professor. But it's water over the dam. The Allies made the victory move-they ADJUSTED to the reality that they FOUND, and southern Iraq is now occupied and/or bottled up. Only from VICTORY can liberation arise. And VICTORY is something that happens at the END, not DURING any war...
