mindmeld,

Re: Call me what you want, but I understand the Arab condition very well...and I would have preferred to know much less and respect them much more. That was the case before 9/11.

The most important thing to remember about 9/11 is that Osama Bin Laden is a CIA asset and the Bush and Bin Laden families have been in business together for a very long time. Your hatred of Islam is classic misdirection. You've been duped by some really evil people who have stolen our government and our media from us.

Belief in the goodness of the U.S. government is astonishingly naive.

As to the failure of Arab League nations to create a middle class and an effective economy, I'd suggest that you study the role of Western imperialists in Washington, London and Paris in creating client royal families and nurturing despotism. Far from promoting "democracy", as Bush cynically is misinforming you, Western powers have actively suppressed democrats in the Middle East for decades. You do know the history of the CIA and Iran's Mossadeq, right? That effort to install a puppet Shah occurred in 1953. We have always supported the bad guys who suppress their own populaces. Today we provide $2-3 Billion per annum to Hosni Mubarak to help his repressive regime suppress democratic movements in Egypt. And the list goes on.
