The station was gained a reputation as an unusually independent voice in a region where many news media are heavily government influenced or controlled.

I believe that's a tad naive. It's Iraqi owned and prints only one side of the news. The only reason a JDM hasn't taken it out is because they intentionally put it in the same building with a nursery.
