And then when we think of the two major news stories relative to misuse and abuse of US intelligence tactics got squashed in the American media, we've all got to wonder what exactly does the rightwing stand for: What actually is their version of America when it comes to the press. After Powell's much US-media hyped presentation to the United Nations where he outlined America's intelligence against the Iraqi regime, the international press soon after reported that he relied upon 12-year old plagerized information. This story never saw prominent coverage in America, rather it gradually seeped in via talking head discussions on television, more by guests than by hosts. Secondly, the US wiretapped UN Security Council member homes and offices during the lobbying efforts to gain votes to support the war. Wiretapping was always big news when the Russians did it, but I guess it's no news when the US does it. Only the Balitmore Sun gave any credible mention to this story. To learn about it, one had to read international news accounts. And this story never even got a backdoor entry into the America media, as did the story on plagerism. Hey folks, what's wrong with this picture? Does the freedom of America's press mean that all media outlets, in a very strange and odd syncronization, opt to exert a right not to print or broadcast something the rest of the world deems important and actually presented to their respective audiences? Indeed, if our sons and daughters are gonna risk their lives in war, then it should be at least to uphold the freedom of the people to have a right to know, to know in a manner sufficient by which one is able to weigh in with a full and considered opinion, instead of a spoonfed or, at best, a limited one. Do any on the right side of the asile of political debate agree with me?
