Castel,

C-SPAN has been playing the one hour evening news from CBC for a few days now. I appreciate getting the different perspective from the awful (crappy) U.S. media. C-SPAN then puts on the BBC Breakfast show. It's quite a bit better than any public broadcasting in the U.S. which has been eviscerated by the right wing down here and is now clearly part of the propaganda machinery.

Brits and the U.S. betrayed the Kurds and Assyrians? Who knew? Actually, Churchill deserves to rot in Hell for creating a false state like Iraq. He, Gertrude Bell and the Foreign Office were determined to create Iraq as an irritant to and a means of preventing the expansion of Turkey, Syria or Iran. I believe they've been too successful. I understand the purpose of this "Great Game" machination. What I can't figure out is why the disparate tribes of the Middle East could never quite figure out it was the Brits, and by extension the American imperialists were the true enemy. The fight between Iraq and Iran in the 1980's is a fabulous example of someone like Hussein being snookered by the West into doing the West's dirty work.
